Our Purpose
Our unit aims to reduce the impact of infectious diseases that are important to public health by conducting clinical and community research, providing comprehensive patient care, training health personnel, researchers, and community agents, and participating in the development of national and international guidelines.
Action Lines
We provide and promise complete, prompt medical care to patients and/or research volunteers with infectious diseases that are of public health concern. We have a higher level of expertise in leishmaniasis and syphilis. This service is available at our Cali and Tumaco locations.

Our diagnostic laboratory is focused on developing and evaluating methods for diagnosing diseases of public health interest in Colombia using molecular and microbiological techniques. We provide diagnostic services and support the validation of diagnostic tests for leishmaniasis and SARS-CoV-2. Our work adheres to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards.

- Tuberculosis diagnosis and susceptibility testing
- Dengue diagnosis
We guarantee the proper handling and use of pharmaceutical services at our facilities. We also offer advice and education to patients and the community on the proper use of medications. Additionally, we periodically evaluate possible adverse events with medical staff.
Our services comply with all requirements for handling medications for patient care and research processes.
We generate new knowledge based on health needs through the design and execution of clinical and community research on infectious diseases of public health interest. Our research complies with Good Clinical Practice and Good Health Research Practice guidelines, as well as national and international ethical standards. Our high-tech laboratories support and assist in various research processes, ensuring quality and rigor.
Our research is endorsed by the Institutional Committee on Ethics in Human Research (CIEIH).
We contribute to the training of health researchers, health professionals, technicians, and community leaders regarding infectious diseases of public health interest.
Currently, we offer the Clinical Research Fellow Program, which is designed to strengthen the careers of physicians interested in research. The program lasts two years. Upon completion, fellows will be able to conduct comprehensive clinical research based on ethical principles and scientific integrity, including the design, conduct, analysis, and interpretation of results.
