LAC-RTC Trainers - Centro Internacional de Entrenamiento e Investigaciones Médicas

The goal that unites the RTC-LAC Regional Node’s team of trainers is clear: strengthening health research capacity to reduce the impact of poverty-related infectious diseases in low and middle-income countries.

The collaborative and multidisciplinary work between researchers and professors from different institutions has developed and enriched the training experience of participants, emphasizing the importance and necessity of putting into practice what is learned.

Undoubtedly, the challenges faced by the group of trainers at the Regional Training Centers were significant. One of the main challenges was related to the COVID-19 pandemic, which led the associated training institutions to rethink their methods of virtual, face-to-face or hybrid training of the courses. In addition, they had to face the current implications in terms of teaching and acquisition of knowledge by the participants.

"As members of the coaching team, each one of us contributes to spreading the courses in our country and in neighboring countries. For example, from Honduras, we have contributed to the dissemination of the courses in Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic. It is our belief that the courses offered contribute to the strengthening of research capacity as part of the solution to health problems in our region. Through capacity building, research teams will be more competitive”.

This has also enabled us to know and learn from the advances and innovations being implemented by other researchers regionally and globally, which can be applied in our local context to advance the teaching and learning of health research.
