“CIDEIM developed many research approaches to one vector borne disease and evolved to include other diseases, linking field to basic research, cell biology and molecular research, while offering services. We are proud to have in Latinamerica a regional center nominated by WHO.
Doing field work, I had to visit coastal and plain regions of Colombia. At Tumaco, in the Pacific, while visiting small islands among mangrove forest, a couple of times we were trapped during the low tide with our motor boat…and had to be man pushed until getting to deeper sea. At Mitú, in Vaupés, I was caught in the line of fire between guerrilla and the army. I was with a colleague from the hospital, riding her motorcycle and a group was heading the house of other friends when the shooting started. We got there in a hurry and I had to spend the night there. In the morning we find out about several dead persons among both sides”.
